What are different skin tightening methods?

There are different methods for skin tightening, so you have a non-invasive treatment and a surgical treatment. With the non-invasive treatment you do not have to go into the skin, so you stay on a skin. With a surgical treatment you do go into the skin.

Radiofrequency treatment

Skin tightening has several common methods; Radio Frequency (RF): This is a non-invasive treatment and uses the latest technology to create heat in deeper layers of the skin, stimulating the natural production of collagen, thus tightening the skin. Thermage FLX is an example of RF treatment. In general, radiofrequency may be more effective for treating deeper wrinkles and more sensitive skin.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is another method and a non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to tighten the skin. Ultherapy is an example of ultrasound treatment. With the help of an ultrasound you can see in which skin layer needs strengthening, so that the treatment  only takes place there without damaging the surrounding area.

Laser therapy

You also have laser therapy, this treatment uses a laser light to tighten the skin. This can be used to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, scars and pigmentation, Fraxel is a very effective form of laser therapy.

Surgical procedures

Surgical procedures are invasive procedures such as a facelift, blepharoplasty or neck lift. These procedures may be more effective than non-invasive treatment, but they have more risks of a longer recovery time. There are also non-surgical (injections) treatments such as botox and fillers, which are used to reduce wrinkles and fine lines and tighten the skin.

When should you start this treatment?

A good time to start this treatment is when you start to notice signs of skin slackening or fine lines. Our collagen begins to decline around age 25 to 30 and can be accelerated by sun exposure, diet and other factors. A few years later, these signs of skin aging may become visible. The treatment does not make your skin sensitive to the sun, so you can have the treatment at any time of the year without having to avoid the sun after laser treatments.

Useful to know!

Should you wish to do any of these treatments it is always important to consult a qualified and experienced professional. This is to determine which skin tightening method is best for you, depending on your individual needs and skin condition.
